Tanzania Off the Beaten Path
Dar Es Salaam
I was very impressed with how developed this city was. It was very modernized and even had a "speed bus" for transportation. Make sure to go to a roof top bar and check out the views. There's endless accommodation options with most ranging from $30-$50 a night.
Arusha
Known as the safari hub of Tanzania, most excursions leave out of the capitol city. You'll notice that the area is more developed that most, so there are endless options for accommodation and food. Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru hiking tours can be found here.
Lushoto
This was my favorite region in Tanzania. If you're looking for a town tucked away in nature then this is your spot. There's many hidden gems in this green highland. I recommend visiting Irente Point and Magamba Rainforest. I took a bus from Arusha to Mombo, then boarded a matatu to Lushoto.
There's not many options for accommodation here. I found a place on airbnb and just happened to luck out by how perfect it was. Other things to do in the Lushoto area include waterfall hikes (several around here). cycling tours and overnight hikes.
Kikuletwa Hotspring
Located just one hour outside of Arusha is the most relaxing, natural spring. This place is definitely worth a visit and can be a day destination. Many tourists that hear about the spot chill here as well as the locals. The best part is there is a rope swing! There's also Garra Rufa Fish in the water that will give you a nice surprise. I've never had fish exfoliate my skin but it was quite the experience!
